The government has also reserved spectrum in the 600 MHz, 3300 MHz and 26 GHz bands for BSNL for providing 5G services, which would be provided after roll out of 4G services<\/a> all over India.
Giving a written reply in Parliament, Vaishnaw<\/a> said in line with Atmanirbhar initiative of the government, BSNL was directed to deploy Indian core for 4G on the recommendations of Empowered Technology Group (ETG). “Accordingly, BSNL floated tender on October 22, 2022 for 1 lakh 4G sites. The bid was opened on November 23, 2022. The evaluation of the bid has been concluded and is under submission for approval of Group of Ministers (GoM),” Vaishnaw said.
BSNL’s 4G services, he said, will be started all over India including Maharashtra and Andaman & Nicobar Islands, within 18-24 months after placing the purchase order. The Minister was replying to a question by lawmakers regarding launch of 4G services in India, particularly in Maharashtra and Andaman & Nicobar Islands and its remote areas.
The Department of Telecommunications<\/a> (DoT) has taken up various projects with support from Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF) for provisioning of 4G mobile services in uncovered villages across the country, including Maharashtra. Further, the Cabinet on July 27, 2022, approved an USOF funded project for saturation of 4G mobile services in uncovered villages across the country.
The project will provide 4G mobile services in 24,680 uncovered villages in remote and difficult areas across the country including the uncovered villages of Maharashtra.
Answering a separate question, minister of state for communications Devuinh Chauhan<\/a> said that 5G services have been rolled out in 329 cities across all service areas of the country.
“Center for Development of Telematics (C-DoT<\/a>) and Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd (RJIL) have developed indigenous 4G\/5G technology stack. The Proof of Concept of C-DoT’s 4G technology stack has been successfully carried out in BSNL network,” he said.
He added that Jio’s stack is being extensively deployed in rolling out of its 5G network. “These indigenous technology stacks may be exported to other countries in future.”
Chauhan said that population scale solutions are being tested on the Indian 4G\/5G indigenous stacks across the platforms such as healthcare, agriculture, smart manufacturing, education, gaming, drones etc.
