After the smart TV foray in December last year, the brand is now entering into the laptop segment to take on the likes of HP, Dell, Lenovo, Xiaomi and Realme.
“The supply chain issues bothered us and we were on and off with our smart TV availability. We have not been very consistent in terms of supply this year. It is a new segment for us but next year we will have a better flow. We are looking forward to expanding our Smart TV with large screen products,” Anish Kapoor, India CEO Infinix Mobile told ET.
“We are seeing laptops as a natural extension. With kids studying online and working from home, people need one personal laptop. We see a good opportunity in the market. We are targeting the 18-35 age segment,” Kapoor said.
He said that the laptops will be imported initially but the brand expects to locally manufacture them by next year. “...we are working on our plan. By next year, we will turn this around and make it in India. We are ready for laptops and don't expect any supply-chain related problem,” he added.
The laptops will be available exclusively on Flipkart. The company’s laptops will be priced in the sub-Rs 30,000-Rs 60,000 range. “We are trying to enter this market with a good value proposition. We are also tapping gamers without our i7 laptop with the best internal specification,” he added.
Infinix’s smartphone business grew 50-60% on year in 2021 and the brand is now looking to further grow its market with the help of 5G smartphones and expansion into the mid premium segment.
Kapoor said that the brand is now “scaling up” in the Indian smartphone market and will launch its next 5G smartphone early next year and will also introduce its “concept smartphone” commercially in India. The 5G smartphone will be priced in the Rs 20,000 price segment.
Infinix will also bring mid-premium zero series in India soon. “It has not been a focus area toll now but we are not ready to go beyond Rs 25,000 price range with our smartphones,” he said.
The brand has also been able to reach 8,000-10,000 offline stores with the help of its partnership with Udaan.
Infinix’s smartphones are manufactured in Noida at the Transsion factory, while smart TVs are manufactured by Bhagwati’s facility.
