It said in a statement Monday that the improvement in ranking makes it “a commendable performance by India in the past one quarter”. This comes amidst an aggressive
5G roll out<\/a> strategy of Reliance Jio<\/a> and Bharti Airtel<\/a> which have together launched their 5G services in over 500 cities to date, and are on track to cover major towns and cities by December 2023, and March 2024, respectively.

In November 2022, India ranked at 105th position, globally in median mobile speeds, as per Ookla. Ookla also recorded 30.96 Mbps median mobile download speeds in February this year which is better than 29.85 Mbps in January 2023.

However, on median fixed broadband speeds, India’s ranking fell by two spots from 79 in January to 81 in February. India’s performance in fixed median download speeds, however, witnessed a slight increase from 50.02 Mbps in January to 50.87 Mbps in February 2023.

According to Ookla’s Speedtest index for February, UAE retained its position on the chart for overall global median mobile speeds, whereas Ukraine increased 24 spots in rank globally. For fixed broadband download speeds,
Saint Vincent<\/a> and the Grenadines<\/a> has increased by 12 spots in rank globally while Singapore is consistent at the number 1 spot this month.
