NEW DELHI: Intex<\/a> is aiming to clock around Rs 4200 crore revenue by the end of this fiscal year through March 2018, roughly 4% lower than a year earlier which saw a 30% on-year slump, as the home bred handset maker tries to offset the effects of intense competition by growing its newer consumer electronics business.

The consumer durable business now contributes around 35% towards the overall revenue. \"You have a big unfulfilled demand in India, and growth will surely come. The consumer business should contribute 50% towards the overall revenue in the coming time,\"
Rajeev Jain<\/a>, chief financial officer at Intex Technologies, told ET.

\nTelevision is one the main revenue drivers for Intex’s consumer durable business. \"If you are facing intense competition in the mobile segment, then you get a breather from the consumer durable business,” Jain explained.

Intex saw its sales plunge 30% to Rs 4,364.08 crore in the year ended March 2017 after the disruption caused by the entry of
Reliance Jio Infocomm<\/a> and because of demonetisation. Net profit declined 17% to Rs 127.3 crore. Jain didn’t give any forecast for net profit.
\n
\nBut the company expects revenue to stabilise this fiscal year, helped mainly by its growing consumer durables business.
\n
Intex also begin production of mobile phones and consumer durables from its new and bigger
manufacturing<\/a> unit in Kasna, Greater Noida, by February-March 2018, having received all necessary approvals, the executive said. Further, Intex has now begun domestic manufacturing of LED Panels in Baddi, Himachal Pradesh.

\n“We have got the approval from MSIP, central government, and approval under Maha project from the UP government. The factory has got the Maha status,” Jain said.

\nUnder the central government's MSIP scheme, Intex has got the capital subsidy, and from state government, it will get the VAT reimbursement.
\n
Intex will now shut down its existing
smartphone<\/a> and feature phone manufacturing and repair facilities in Noida, and shift these facilities to the Kasna factory, which will also make mobile accessories including power banks, batteries and chargers.

\nIntex has already invested Rs 80-85 crore towards this factory, and will now invest Rs 25 crore more going forward. “The project is about consolidation of our other factories and new,” Jain said, adding the company will also start production lines of refrigerators and washing machines in the first phase. “In the second phase, we will start manufacturing air conditioners also.”

\nIntex said that domestic manufacturing of LED panels will ensure better quality control leading to rejection rates being reduced by at least 35% and thereby, result in cost efficiencies. Nidhi Markanday, director, Intex, said that indigenous manufacturing of LED panels will allow the company to significantly reduce turnaround time as dependency on import of panels will end.

\nIntex manufactures 1.8 million LED TVs annually in its Baddi facility, while mobile phones (feature and smart) production stands at 35 million.
