As reported by Macrumours, the internal builds of iOS 13 is called as ‘STARTester’ app that can switch in and out of the headset mode to give users the augmented reality experience on an iPhone<\/a> for testing. Also mentioned in the code are the two head-mounted modes for testing - ‘worn’ and ‘held’.
The website has also found an internal README file in iOS 13 that reveals more about the ‘StarBoard’ system shell for AR-enabled apps. The file reveals that Apple could be working on an AR device codenamed ‘Garta’. It could possibly be one of the prototype AR devices<\/a>.
Digging further in the iOS 13 code also unveiled some more terms such as ‘StarBoard mode’, ‘Views’ and ‘Scenes’. Some even mentioned ‘ARStarBoardViewController’ and ‘ARStarBoardSceneManager’. However, these don’t specifically reveal how the device will work and when it will be launched.
However, analysts including Ming-Chi Kuo have previously mentioned that Apple plans to launch an AR headset in 2020. Bloomberg has reported that the device might be running a custom version of iOS based operating system called rOS. We are likely to see more hints coming our way with upcoming beta version after the roll out of iOS 13.
