Reliance Jio Infocomm<\/a> (Jio<\/a>) added 1.7 million wireless subscribers in October, pulling up its gross user base to 426.59 million, reflecting the shift of the low end subscribers from the rivals Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea (Vi) to Jio<\/a>.

In comparison, Airtel lost 0.48 million customers dragging its gross user base to 353.97 million gross subscribers while Vi too lost 0.96 million gross customers to close the month at 269.02 million subscribers.

The overall user mobile user base increased by 0.27 million to close October 2021, with 1.16billion subscribers according to latest subscriber data issued by the
Telecom Regulatory Authority of India<\/a> (Trai<\/a>) on Monday.

Jio's subscriber addition is a turnaround since in the month of September, the largest telco had lost 19 million mobile users.

Trai<\/a>'s wireless market data showed Airtel widened customer market shares to 30.35% (30.04%) while Vi saw a marginal dip of 23.07% (23.15%) in October. Jio, gathered more market share at 36.58% (36.43%), boosted by the uptick in customers.

In the rural markets, Bharti Airtel gained 0.83 million mobile subscribers while Vi lost 0.69 million customers. Jio saw a marginal uptick in rural additions by 0.61 million which could be due to the launch of Jio's 4G smartphone built with Google called
JioPhone Next<\/a>.

Visitor Location Register (VLR), a key metric reflecting the number of active subscribers on a mobile network, showed that 97.78% of the users were active for Bharti Airtel, 87.10% for Vi and 84.03 % for Jio in October.
