Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE<\/a>) and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd<\/a> (BSNL<\/a>) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for providing 100 megabits per second (Mbps<\/a>) broadband internet<\/a> connectivity in high schools, higher secondary schools and vocational higher secondary schools in the state.

The present eight Mbps fibre to the home (FTTH<\/a>) connections in schools will now be upgraded to 100 Mbps, which is 12.5 times faster. “The 100 Mbps broadband internet connectivity would benefit 45,000 classrooms in 4,685 schools, which are part of the hi-tech school project. In 2018, KITE had deployed laptops, projectors, USB<\/a> speakers and networking in these classes. With the availability of 100 Mbps connection in classrooms, all digital\/online systems can now be used more effectively. This would also enable the availability educational channels in all classrooms,” said KITE CEO K Anvar Sadath.

BSNL has agreed to enhance the broadband connection in schools to 100Mbsps without any additional cost and adhering to the existing rate of Rs 10,000 +GST by which the earlier 8 Mbps broadband connection was provided. Each school can now use up to 3,300 GB data per month as per this plan.
