In December 2021, he received a call from a person who introduced himself as an employee of private mobile service provider. He offered to take his land for rent and install cell phone tower to provide 5G<\/a> service to the customers.
After her husband agreed to the deal, the person asked him to send him the land documents through WhatsApp, which he did. Her husband paid Rs 5,100 as processing fee. Later, he paid Rs 28,500 and Rs 48,600 as processing charges through a UPI provider. Recently, the unidentified person demanded Rs 1.6 lakh after which her husband got suspicious and preferred a complaint.
Police registered a case of cheating under IPC and Information Technology (IT) Act.
In another case, a cyber crime team arrested T Anish<\/a>, 24, of Manavalakurichi in Kanyakumari district on Wednesday in a case dating back to May 2021.
Police said that a Trichy resident found an advertisement link on Facebook which offered to provide brand new mobile phone at a cheaper price. The complainant paid Rs 13,000 through the link but later found that he was conned.
Investigation revealed that Anish<\/a> and his accomplice A Christ Jenith<\/a> of the same area were involved. Police arrested Anish while Jenith<\/a> was absconding.
Superintendent of police, Trichy Sujitkumar<\/a> appealed to the people to beware of such fraudsters and to report to the police immediately.
