\n\n\tThe company booked a loss of Rs 160 crore in the year ended on March 31, 2013, as it overstocked spare parts and phones that became redundant because of changing technology, and spent too much on marketing. The company has since turned around – it has already repaid 85% of the funds it borrowed from eight banks – and is estimated to have posted a consolidated profit of Rs 7 crore in the year through March 2014.\n

\n\n\tAccording to Ajjay Agarwal, its chairman and managing director, the worst is now over for the company. “We have changed our distribution strategy, and instead of doing it directly we are now going through a mega stockist for the North and East,” Agarwal said.\n

\n\n\t“Now we have FDI (foreign direct investment) in the company,” Agarwal said. He did not share the current shareholding pattern of the unlisted company, but said a strategic investor has taken a stake in Maxx.\n

\n\n\tAgarwal expects the company to post around Rs 3,600 crore of revenue in the current fiscal year from Rs 600 crore last year. Much of the revenue growth is expected to come from the products it plans to launch this year – as many as 250 mobile phone models, including 150 Android-based smartphones.\n

\n\n\tMaxx, which has its manufacturing plant at Haridwar, Uttarakhand, isn’t working on any long-term plans, because Agarwal says his current focus is on enhancing production and making prices more attractive.\n

\n\n\tThe company is talking to apps makers to preload their applications on Maxx phones under revenue-share deals.\n

\n\n\tPolitically, Agarwal supports Narendra Modi, BJP’s candidate for Prime Minister.
