\"We have delivered a 2X revenue from 2019-2021. Our revenues doubled from $8 billion to 17 billion, and our operating margin increased to 5X,\" Rick Tsai<\/a>, president and chief executive, MediaTek said.
Tsai further said that it was a tremendous achievement, and the company's share prices have grown to 2.6X from November last year.
\"We have had a tremendous time during the last 2 years. With a 113% year-on-year growth, our mobile phone revenue grew 57%, compared to the industry's growth of 23%,\" the top executive said.
MediaTek's Internet of Things (IoT<\/a>) computing portfolio contributed 22% of its income, registering a 40% year-on-year growth, and the smart home segment contributed 14% of the revenues, demonstrating a 34% year-on-year growth.
The company, according to Tsai, invested $3.3 billion in research and development (R&D) in 2021, focusing on high-performance computing and low-power capability, and he said that the company's cutting-edge technology and innovations are driving the industry forward.
\"MediaTek is a very strong mobile system-on-chip (SoC) provider. Our technologies and innovation accelerate digital transformation,\" the executive said, adding that the company has come along a long way in a span of two years.
Hsinchu-based company said that it is putting in more investments in Artificial Intelligence (AI) to drive digital transformation.
\"We are unlocking the potential of 5G across applications, smartphones, data cards and broadband. I am so proud of our technologies and achievements. Deep down, it's a continuous investment and commitment in technology developments,\" he said.
Over a few years, the mobile processor maker has developed leading edge technologies, modems and Wi-Fi, backed with low-power capabilities.
\"Our core capabilities will bring Mediatek to a bright future in the next 3-5 years with not only Dimensity 9000 SoC, but also Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 7 which will be demonstrated next January in the Consumer Electronics Show<\/a> (CES),\" Tsai said.
The Taiwanese chipset giant, which competes with the US-based rival Qualcomm<\/a>, introduced its first fifth generation or 5G SoC in 2019 which, according to it, and since then demonstrated tremendous progress and improvements.
The company ships nearly 2 billion connected low-power edge devices<\/a> every year, and said that computing, connectivity and multimedia remained its core capabilities.
\"Our leadership in edge computing and connectivity is critical to metaverse and digital transformation. In Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) areas, we are developing capabilities together with partnerships,\" the top executive added.
MediaTek said that mobile continued to be a very important business while it makes headway in other growth engines.
Company's new flagship processor Dimensity 9000 comes with a few industry-first features, and is touted to be the \"most powerful chip\" ever available taking competitors like Qualcomm and Samsung<\/a> head on.
The new chipset comes with a 5G modem supporting the 3GPP’s latest specifications, and is expected to power Android-based smartphones coming up next year.
