NEW DELHI: Elon Musk’s Starlink has stopped pre-booking in India for its upcoming satellite-based internet service, the company’s website showed on Tuesday.

"Thank you for your interest in ordering Starlink! Starlink is not yet available in your area but as we launch more satellites, we continue to expand our coverage area. Please check back for future availability in your area," the website notification said.

The satellite communications (
satcom) company had been taking preorders for services for various locations across Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, and Pune, according to its official website.

This comes just days after the Centre issued an advisory to people against subscribing to Starlink Internet Services, a division of billionaire Musk’s SpaceX, as it does not have a license to operate in the country.

Starlink had been told to comply with regulations and refrain from "booking/rendering the satellite internet services in India with immediate effect".

The
Department of Telecommunications (DoT) also categorically told Indian citizens that Starlink was not an authorized licensee and advised people "not to subscribe" to Starlink's services.

Alongside, Starlink Internet Services has applied for an “experimental license” to pilot its services with a limited number of subscribers, the Times of India reported citing company sources.
