国家安全指令在电信部门促进国产设备的使用:TEMA

NEW DELHI: Domestic telecom gear makers\u2019 body TEMA<\/a> Friday welcomed the decision of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) to create a National Security Directive<\/a> in the telecoms sector<\/a> and added that the government\u2019s decision to allow the use of DoT PMA compliant products will give a boost to the use of indigenous products in the telecom networks.

\u201cA new era will usher in once all the telecom networks in India would be covered under this new directive of the government, irrespective of the telecom firm\u2019s ownership. The domestic industry<\/a> is fully geared to play its role and contribution to domestic manufacturing of trusted telecom equipment,\u201d said NK Goyal, Chairman Emeritus TEMA.

\u201cIt is a decision that is forward-looking and strengthening the domestic industry and national security of India. We request that the government should on the priority review its decision that allows use, maintain, and upgrade the existing products from\u201d non-trusted\u201d sources,\u201d said Ravi Sharma, Chairman TEMA.

<\/div><\/div>Sharma added that such a review assumes importance especially since the sector is transitioning to the 5G era and noted that a timeline should have been provided for the replacement of \u2018untrusted equipment\u2019.

The government is expected to declare a list of \u2018trust sources\u2019 for obtaining equipment for telecom networks for building the next-generation 5G networks, a move which is aimed at keeping Chinese vendors Huawei<\/a> and ZTE<\/a> in keeping out network expansion plans.

The \u2018list\u2019 would be approved by the National Security Committee on Telecom (NSCT) headed by Dy. NSA after it is prepared and vetted by National Cyber Security Coordinator (NCSC) Rajesh Pant.

\u201cThere is a need to step up R&D in 5G in addition to ramping up the manufacture of telecom equipment under PMP\/PLI schemes..it is an opportunity and imperative to link these three dimensions to achieve Atma Nirbhar Bharat in telecom within the next 2-3 years,\u201d said R Chandrashekhar, former Secretary DoT, Meity, and currently Chairman TEMA Council on Digital Empowerment.

\u201cIt is a milestone decision to support Atma Nirbhar Bharat in the telecom sector. TEMA also requests that the mandatory testing of telecom products as mandated under Indian Telegraph Rules be implemented in full scale immediately,\u201d said Shri Sandeep Aggarwal, Vice Chairman TEMA.
