NetApp is bullish about India and has been developing core R&D products from the country, said a senior executive.

The US-based cloud services and data management company has been scouting for more partnerships with startups to shape its cloud strategy in India, said NetApp president
Cesar Cernuda.

The Indian public cloud market is expected to see high growth in the next five years, which cloud data management companies like NetApp are looking to capitalise on.

IT industry lobby group
Nasscom has said that India's public cloud market, which is currently pegged at Rs 17,000 crore, will grow to Rs 63,000 crore by 2025.

“I'm a big fan of the opportunity that India represents. Not just in the local market, but even on the talent and the overall ecosystem (that India has) with its start-ups,” Cernuda said.

“We have also been investing in India to develop more talent…for us, India has been a key market not only from a performance point of view but also from a strategy, talent and R&D point of view,” he added.

During the last few months, more businesses in India have signed up for NetApp’s cloud services.

Banks have signed up for the company’s data management practice, while data centres of telecom companies and local cloud service providers have also inked large deals for different practices, according to the company.

NetApp now wants to work with more startups in the country.

“One of the things that we are looking into is how we work with some of the startups in India, how they can take advantage of our overall product portfolio, and the solutions that we have. They've been helping us as well to shape our overall cloud strategy,” according to Cernuda.

NetApp India has filed 500 patents and about 280 of those have been approved, the company said. One of the key technology systems being built out of India is Cloud Volumes ONTAP (CVO).

ONTAP is the company’s core operating system for the cloud environment. For Apple, the core operating system is iOS and for
Microsoft it is Windows, similarly for the Cloud, it is CVO. CVO is being used by companies to move their data from on-premise setups to the Cloud.
