Mumbai: With nearly two lakh jobsexpected to be slashed in the IT sector in the next two years,all is not lost as more than 50 per cent of the laid offemployees will be re-skilled and transfered to otheropportunities, a survey said.<\/p>

The survey was conducted by CIEL HR Services<\/a> among midto senior-level professionals in 50 IT companies.<\/p>

\"The normal industry<\/a> attrition is 15-20 per cent,which is not getting replaced and with automation taking over,more than two lakh jobs are likely to be lost in next twoyears.<\/p>

\"This may sound depressing, but all is not lost. Thereare enough opportunities to be leveraged upon,\" CIEL HRServices CEO Aditya Narayan Mishra told quoting thesurvey.<\/p>

Most of the layoffs are taking place in segments likeIT infrastructure<\/a> support, testing and software development,Mishra added.<\/p>

However, new opportunities are emerging in areas suchas cloud computing and artificial intelligence, among others,he added.<\/p>

\"The transition is already taking place. About 50 percent of the laid off workforce in the industry, includingfreshers with under eight years of experience, will be re-skilled and transfered to other opportunities,\" the surveysaid.<\/p>

While the remaining 50 per cent might find itdifficult, they can find alternate career opportunities inother sectors, including retail and consumer banking, itadded.<\/p>

New platforms which are helping IT companies to createand deploy applications that are faster and simpler are makingmany jobs redundant.<\/p>

Automated tools like bots and a range of automationplatforms are also reducing human efforts.<\/p>

According to the survey, socio-political changesaround the world are also putting pressures on governments inthe West to review their policies of outsourcing.<\/p>

Immigration policies are being re-looked, hencecompanies in India have to find other ways of generatingdemand and continuously climbing the value chain, it said.<\/p>

According to the survey, only 33 per cent of therespondents anticipated factors like automation and changinggovernment policies resulting in job losses, while 44 per centsaid firms will shed weak performers in this process.<\/p> Similarly, 44 per cent said the change has come fasterthan expected.
