NEW DELHI: Nuage<\/a> Networks, the Nokia<\/a> venture focused on software-defined networking solutions, is in talks with tier-1 telecom operators in India for deploying SDN<\/a> technology in data centres to serve the needs of large enterprises, chief executive Sunil Khandekar told ET.

\n“The SDN market has reached a tipping point where it is starting to go mainstream, which is why I am here to meet some of these customers because we are seeing real traction,” Khandekar said.

\n“In the Indian market, it is just the beginning. We will start to see deployments this year. Certainly some very strategic decisions will be made this year by both enterprises as well as the service providers.”

\nNokia has recently developed a strategy of serving non-telecom or big enterprise customers. Nuage, which has a team with over 100 employees and is hyper-focused on research and development, is helping Nokia cater to the needs of these new customers.

\n“Nokia sees Nuage as the gateway to the non-telco as the enterprise business,” he said.
\n
\nTelecom operators in India are in the process of transforming their traditional IP MPLS service offering to software defined wide area network offering as they seek to cater to enterprise needs.
\n
\nIndian telecom operators are transforming their internal IT with modern tools and automation with the help of SDN and network functions virtualization (NFV) technologies. They are also looking at deploying NFV cloud to offer public cloud service like AWS and other services that they can sell.
\n
\n“We help telcos build a platform that provides network automation not only to transform traditional data centre but to do automation of the wide area network,” Khandekar said.

\nLarge enterprises, typically, have multiple data centres and big offices that are connected. They now looking for sophisticated technology to connect these disparate environments as service providers do.
\n
\n“The focus has been to provide network automation in order for enterprises to be able to deliver efficiency. We have excellent traction in financial, retail, pharma and healthcare,” Khandekar said.

\nNuage has over 200 customers globally. In terms of the market potential, it is seeing activity in Japan and South Korea. “These are important markets for us and India has the same level of potential,” the executive added.
