KOCHI: After the launch of women-friendly initiatives like ‘Pink Patrol<\/a>’ and ‘Pink Shadow’, Kochi city police will soon launch SOS (an international code signal of extreme distress) mobile application for the safety of women.

\nAccording to police, the smartphone application would be of great help to women as it is equipped with a button which will alert the police and an immediate relative in case of an emergency.

Krishna<\/a> said that the app, which was yet to be christened, was designed by an IT startup free of cost.

\n“After downloading the app, the user will have to register by giving basic details such as name, address, age, contact number and phone number of an immediate relative. The app will have an alert button which can be pressed when the user requires help or feels that she is in trouble. The app will automatically record sounds for the next 30 seconds and send the same to the police. It also sends alerts to the police control room as well as to the alternative contact number,” said

\nPolice can identify the user by accessing her details from the software of the app. They will be able to contact the user and send a team for the woman’s assistance.

“Police will also be able to trace the exact location of the user if GPS service is activated in the mobile. The app will be launched for
Android<\/a> platforms. It will be introduced later in iOS<\/a> version,” said the officer.
\n
\nHe added that the app was ready for release and police were planning a grant launch event in which the new
Pink Patrol<\/a> team of Kochi city police would also be introduced.

\nPink Patrol, an exclusive control room vehicle service for women, is ready to start its service in Kochi.
\n
\nThe control room vehicle will be completely managed by women officers who have undergone training.
