\nTata Wolverine owes the company about Rs 3 crore, Oracle Retail’s lawyer Bhushan Mahadik said, adding that Oracle Retail is an Indian entity and has no relation with the US-based tech giant Oracle Corp.

\nThe petitioner has also made James David Zwiers, president of Wolverine Outdoor & Lifestyle Group, party to the case.
\n
\nMahadik said Tata International has “acknowledged the liability” towards Oracle Retail but the latter was asked to contact Wolverine to get the outstanding dues.

\nTata International said the company cannot comment on the matter because it is subjudice. But Wolverine did not respond to an e-mailed questionnaires sent on Wednesday.

\nIn 2012, Tata International and Wolverine Worldwide formed a 50:50 JV for wholesale distribution of Wolverine’s Merrell and Caterpillar footwear brands and apparels in India.

\nThe joint venture was selling CAT branded footwear, apparel and accessories through various multi-brand retail outlets and through some of its own standalone outlets. But the business did not pan out as expected, prompting Tata and Wolverine to shut shops and call off the JV.

\n“The loss was much more than expected and the scale was nothing compared to what they had envisaged,” said a person familiar with the partnership.
\n
\nTata International did not have much success in its other footwear retailing venture Tashi as well and folded its six Tashi stores amid mounting losses.
