\nThe Internet-driven apps, according to the study, have a potential to save 803 minutes a week, Rs 16,185 consumer surplus per user and Rs 4,810 consumer surplus per capita annually.

\nConsumer surplus is an evaluation of time or money saved by using popular Rich Interaction functions instead of traditional communications alternatives.
\n
\nArnold, however, said that RI apps have economic impact which eventually increases with the consumers subscribing to more functions.
\n
\nThe finding revealed that that rich apps could create a consumer surplus of $98 billion (or Rs 6.3 lakh crores) in India which is equivalent to 4.3% of India’s GDP of $2264 billion (Rs 147 lakh crores) as of 2016.
\n
\nThe German expert also said that India is on a fast-track digital journey and Internet subscribers are growing exponentially, and added that digitisation and economic success of a country is linked to each other.
\n
The joint WIK-BIF initiative also recognised five Indian innovation-driven apps out of 139 worldwide. These include Nimbuzz<\/a>, Hike<\/a>, JioChat Messenger<\/a>, Flock<\/a> and Lookup<\/a>.
\n
\"The new study is timely work by BIF and WIK, which is a granular activity not attempted earlier,\" former telecom secretary and BIF chairman MF Farooqui<\/a> said, adding that technology has an important role in telecom sector.

\nLast week, the forum, headed by Farooqui also submitted key recommendations to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) for the upcoming national Telecom Policy (NTP) 2018.
