NEW DELHI: Itel<\/a>’s CEO Sudhir Kumar<\/a> has left the company even as the feature-phone maker seeks to narrow the gap with incumbent market leader Samsung<\/a>, having emerged as the second-largest in India within a year of launching its handsets in the country, reports Gulveen Aulakh.

An itel spokesperson confirmed the exit, adding that the managing director of
Transsion India<\/a>, the Chinese parent of itel, would take over the executive role until a suitable replacement was hired. Kumar told ET that he was stitching together a partnership with a Chinese company, and will launch a new mobile phone brand — Tambo — in India in April.
