State-run telecom research body
CDoT<\/a> along with Indian software major Tata Consultancy Services<\/a> (TCS) has developed the 4G\/5G stack. State run telco Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. is currently in the process of deploying the deploying the 4G stack across 100,000 sites which will be upgraded to 5G later this year.

Vaishnaw had earlier said that India was in talks with 18 countries across the world that are keen to implement the 4G-5G technology stack.

The minister was speaking after launching a 5G site at Gangotri, which is also the 2,00,000th 5G site in the country. So far, 2 lakh sites covering 696 districts have been installed in the last 8 months.

Vaishnaw said since the launch of services on October 1, the 5G network has been rolled out in all 28 states and 8 Union Territories now.

“The 5G rollout has been one of the fastest roll out in the world with one site installed per minute,” Vaishnaw said.

Telcos Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel have been rolling out 5G services since October.

He added that in line with the country’s vision to lead in the 6G technology development, India has over 100 patents in 6G technology, which shows the prowess of the talented engineers and innovators of the country. “Developed countries like USA are showing interest in Indian 4G\/5G technology stack,” Vaishnaw said.

In a related development, the US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) hosted a workshop on US-India 5G & Next Generation Networks.
