TRAI has extended the last date to receive written comments and counter comments up to May 18 2023, and June 1 2023, respectively, keeping in view the request of stakeholders and industry associations for an extension.
The regulatory body added that no further requests for an extension would be considered.
The previous deadline for submission of comments and counter comments was fixed as May 4 and May 18 respectively.
TRAI had floated a consultation paper on April 6 asking for suggestions on whether spectrum assignment for space communications should be done through auctions, the administrative route, or any other model.
It also sought views on whether such allocation of airwaves must happen at a national or a telecom circle level<\/a>.
The mode of spectrum allocation has been a contentious topic with satellite players such as the Bharti Group-backed OneWeb stating spectrum for satellite broadband<\/a> should be given administratively, in line with the practice in the rest of the world. Reliance Jio<\/a> and Vodafone Idea<\/a> have opposed the idea.
TRAI has also listed out a set of 54 questions covering various aspects of space-based communications including spectrum assignment, payment terms, block size per bidder, among others.
