CHENNAI: Wireless tech<\/a> and semiconductor major Qualcomm India<\/a> is looking for tech talent to fill over a hundred job openings at its engineering facility in Chennai with around 70 of these openings posted online.
The job roles are across areas such as hardware, System on Chip (SoC<\/a>), Software<\/a>, Architects<\/a>, Networking and Connectivity, Cloud and Machine Learning domains. Qualcomm<\/a> says this talent will support the company's initiatives as India gears up for developments in 5G<\/a>, Wireless LAN (WLAN), and Fixed Wireless Access (FWA).
The Chennai facility was originally the offshore development centre of Atheros, a San Jose-based company, which Qualcomm group acquired in 2011. Since then, the Qualcomm India facility has been supporting the development of access points, gateways, and other WLAN-based solutions.
The Chennai team, in particular, has been involved in developing multiple generations of the 802.11 WLAN standards, including WiFi5, WiFi6, WiFi6E, and the recently announced WiFi7, with other Qualcomm companies.
“We have a product development team here along with a team of highly talented silicon engineers, software engineers, and support engineers. We have capabilities to develop and deliver solutions using the Qualcomm group’s ecosystem. The continuing and rapid evolution of the wireless environment worldwide and in India gives our engineering teams in Chennai the opportunity to contribute to Qualcomm’s global R&D engine,\" Mahesh Moorthy, vice-president, engineering, Qualcomm India (who heads the Chennai engineering facility), said.
Placing an emphasis on upskilling, Qualcomm India has worked closely with education institutions such as the IITs and BITS so that employees can get an M Tech degree while they work.
Employees can also get certified in specialized subjects such as Signal Processing, Machine Learning and Deep Learning, as per their areas of interest.
Qualcomm has engineering facilities in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Noida, and Chennai, with a combined strength of around 16,000 employees.
