NEW DELHI: Rakuten Mobile<\/a>, a Japanese telco<\/a>, Monday signed a deal to acquire Estmob<\/a>, a South Korean peer-to-peer file transfer solution start-up.
The two companies will establish joint research and development presence in South Korea for Rakuten Symphony<\/a> that will leverage Estmob’s developer team and existing technology to accelerate product development for Rakuten Symphony’s Internet and Ecosystem services, as per an official statement.
Ryan Son, Chief Marketing Officer of Estmob, will join Rakuten Symphony as President of Internet and Ecosystem services, the statement added.
The Rakuten Symphony Internet and Ecosystem service business group will work with software development teams across Rakuten Group to develop a mediation layer to integrate all standalone products from membership, loyalty, payment, media, gaming, and cloud storage platforms into a unified Rakuten Symphony portfolio.
Japanese conglomerate Rakuten Group Inc. had launched its business unit Rakuten Symphony in August 2021 for accelerating the global adoption of cloud-native Open Radio Access Network (Open RAN) infrastructure and services, by telcos, enterprises, and government bodies.
Estmob said it will continue to “grow and enhance” the Send Anywhere solution and will try to integrate it through Rakuten Symphony. Send Anywhere allows files of all sizes and types to be shared globally via the internet and
The Seoul-based company will also focus on developing other products.

Rakuten investment arm Rakuten Capital, through its early-stage investment fund Rakuten Ventures, has been supporting Estmob from its first seed round in 2014.
