The NGIS initiative has been brought by the Software Technology Parks of India (STPI). The aim of the incubation scheme is to develop and build an ecosystem for startups in India in partnership with the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY).
“STPI is taking initiatives and measures to realize the vision of Digital India. NGIS program is created and aligned with the vision of NPSP 2019 and it will create a robust ecosystem for software product development in the country,” said Omkar Rai, DG, STPI.
The NGIS aims to support 300 start-ups/entrepreneurs/SMEs in the fields of IT/ITeS/NSDM over a period of three years.
“Digital India will not be possible without dispersing the IT/ITeS industry to smaller cities of India. We need to focus on software product creation, which is in the direction of Atmanirbhar Bharat & NGIS will play a major role in empowering the youth of smaller towns to showcase their potential in building indigenous software products for India & the world, ” Ravi Shankar Prasad, Union Minister of Electronics and IT, during the inauguration of STPI NGIS.
Further, the NGIS scheme is focused on 12 tier-2 locations across India, which are--Agartala, Bhilai, Bhopal, Bhubaneshwar, Dehradun, Guwahati, Jaipur, Lucknow, Prayagraj, Mohali, Patna & Vijayawada.
However, startups from across the country can apply to become an NGIS beneficiary and each NGIS location has a dedicated chief mentor along with a ‘mentor pool’ and knowledge partners.
The services provided by NGIS to its beneficiaries include physical infrastructure (including incubation and software product security testing (SPST) facilities), mentoring and guidance, access to venture capitals (VCs) for funding support, advisory services, along with financial incentives like seed funding of upto Rs 25 lakhs.
“Now startups are coming up in small cities and we are planning to empower them through NGIS. The incubation program that we are starting today will see massive momentum in the next few years down the line,” emphasized Ajay Prakash Sawhney, Secretary, MeitY, GoI during inauguration.
