NEW DELHI: Billionaire Mukesh Ambani-controlled Reliance Jio<\/a>'s broadband market share has <\/span>surpassed 50% while <\/span>mobile subscriber base has risen <\/span>to 21.6% at <\/span>September end, India Ratings & Research (Ind-Ra<\/a>) finding Monday said.

Bharti Airtel<\/a>'s broadband share increased to 21%, showcasing a marginal year-on-year growth of 2%, the ratings firm said in a release.

In September 2018, broadband subscribers increased 51.2% year-on-year to 463.2 million, driven by low data prices and better affordability of smartphones, according to the ratings agency.

The study also said that
Jio<\/a>'s wireless market share for September 2018 increased further to 21.6%, which underlined <\/span>the reduction in gross revenue of other incumbents. The new entrant <\/span>had a <\/span>20.5% share of the <\/span>mobile market pie in August and 19.1% in July this year.

Company's subscriber base, according to
Ind-Ra<\/a>, <\/span>grew 5.4% month-on-month, with Jio's <\/span>rivals Bharti Airtel<\/a>, Vodafone India<\/a> and Idea Cellular<\/a> registering<\/span> a 0.7%, 1.2% and 1.8% month-on-month decline in the subscriber base, respectively.

The agency<\/span> attributed Jio’s growth to aggressive pricing and free entertainment applications to differentiate itself from competitors, that eventually created subscriber loyalty.

In September 2018, 2.4 million net wireless subscribers were added in the telecom sector led by an increase in Jio's subscriber base.

<\/span>The market disruption of new entrant continued with its aggressive <\/span>strategy that has led
industry<\/a>'s voice and data tarriff <\/span>to hit rock bottom with incumbents such as Bharti Airtel, Vodafone<\/a> India and Idea Cellular<\/a> losing revenue on a quarterly basis.

The greenfield telco launched its commercial services in September 2016.

Jio continued its growth trajectory by adding 13.0 million subscribers in September 2018 and 113.6 million subscribers during October 2017-September 2018, the study pointed.

Telco's competitors such as Bharti Airtel Limited and Vodafone-Idea Limited added 61.5 million and 37.5 million active subscribers, respectively, during the year. <\/span>
