\"\"NEW DELHI: Ruckus Wireless<\/a> is expecting to grow its business by 35-40% in India by the calendar year 2018, riding on the growth coming from telecom operators and Indian government’s ambitious Smart Cities project and Indian telco’s increasing focus on public WiFi and data offload, a top executive said.

\n“India is currently the second largest market but the fastest growing market in the Asia-Pacific region. It could become our top market in the region in the next two quarters with new upcoming projects in the smart cities and rural connectivity areas,” Sudarshan Boosupalli, director and country head – India and SAARC, told ET.
\n
\nFor Smart Cities, Ruckus is providing its network solutions smart city projects in Kakinada, Bhopal, Hyderabad, and Gandhinagar through its partners such as Sterlite, Wipro, and L&T Technology among others.

\n“Government projects are finally picking pace in the country with cycle getting reduced to almost six months. The government has shown action lately which will drive growth,” he said.

In addition to Smart Cities, Ruckus is also participating in the
BharatNet<\/a> project through its partners.
\n
\nRuckus Wireless was recently acquired by Arris International from Brocade Communication Systems in a deal worth $800 million. Boosupalli said that the company’s business went down in India due to ambiguity during the period in which it got acquired by Brocade and later sold to Arris.

\n“Since May this year, there has been a huge surge in our business as there is no ambiguity in the market,” he added.
\n
\nIn India, telecom service provider business contributes around 30-40% towards overall revenue, while government segment accounts for 20%. “Opportunity in the government sector will be a game changer for us, and the business will double in coming quarters,” Boosupalli said.

\nOn the service provider front, the company is working with Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and Idea Cellular, along with some internet service providers like Tikona. It had equipped around eight cricket stadiums with WiFi network for Reliance Jio in India and has also installed hotspots in tourist places.

\n“Telcos are more focused on WiFi in India now following the entry of Reliance Jio. They are now focusing on offering WiFi as a bundled offering with data packs, hence the opportunity is huge,” Boosupalli said.

Ruckus is also working with internet major Google for the latter’s
RailTel WiFi<\/a> initiative to connect Railway stations. Boosupalli said that Ruckus in currently in talks with social media giant Facebook for its Express WiFi service.

In India, Ruckus largely competes with
Cisco<\/a> and Aruba Networks, and now expects to become the top WiFi network provider in India in coming two quarters.

\nThe acquisition by Arris now allows Ruckus to focus more on enterprises with switching business, which will contribute significantly towards overall revenue in near future, the executive said, adding that education, hospitality, manufacturing, healthcare, and e-commerce are some fast-growing verticals for Ruckus in India.

\nThe company has 800 channel partners in across tier-1 and tier-2 cities in India, and it is now looking to add new partners to grow its switching business.
