NEW DELHI: Samsung<\/a> India on Tuesday said it has partnered with the National Skill Development Corporation<\/a> (NSDC<\/a>) to train 50,000 youths under an initiative, ‘Samsung DOST<\/a>’ (Digital & Offline Skills Training), to equip them with skills needed for working in the electronics retail sector

Under the first phase, NSDC will train 2,500 participants at 120 sites across the country. These participants will be school passouts and will be provided with paid on-the-job training (OJT) at Samsung’s retail outlets, said an official statement.

Under Samsung DOST, the participants will receive 200 hours of blended classroom and online training, followed by five months of OJT at Samsung retail stores, along with a monthly stipend that will prepare them for India’s fast-growing electronics retail sector.

“The Samsung DOST program is aligned to the Government of India’s Skill India initiative and is an embodiment of our vision of #PoweringDigitalIndia that seeks to empower the next generation of young India. With this new program, we aim to close the skills and employability gap among youth in the country, helping them find jobs in the fast-growing electronics retail sector,” said Ken Kang, President & CEO,

Elaborating further, the statement said that the training will be in accordance with the National Skill Qualification Framework and will include skill sets such as customer engagement, sales counter management, handling customer queries, product demonstration and selling skills along with soft skills training including post-Covid etiquettes.

During the OJT, participants will be made familiar with the functioning of electronics retail stores through live demonstrations, role-play techniques, and hands-on training.

The assessments and certification of the participants will be done by the
Telecom Sector Skill Council<\/a> (TSSC) after the participants complete their OJT, the statement added.

\"India is poised to become the global hub for ICT manufacturing & services as well as a provider of skilled frontline workforce. By creating an opportunity for our youth, this project will surely go from strength to strength and fulfill the skill requirements of the industry,\" said Arvind Bali, CEO, TSSC.
