Following the interview of six candidates including Sanjeev Kumar, director— Mahanagar Telephone Nigam<\/a> Limited (MTNL<\/a>); Ramakant Sharma, principal general manager, BSNL and TV Venkatram, principal general manager, BSNL, the board recommended Mishra’s name.
Mishra, a 1984-batch Indian Telecommunications Services (ITS) officer, is presently serving as a principal general manager (PGM) at BSNL’s Karnataka circle.
The selection process, however, would further requires clearance from the vigilance department as well as Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC<\/a>) approval, which is expected to take another three months.
The names for the two BSNL board-level positions for finance and enterprise business units are yet to be recommended by the government’s selection board.
In October 2019, the PESB, as a part of the selection process, has shortlisted 12 officials for the vacant posts at the state-controlled telecom company.
Meanwhile, the ITS officers demanded fair treatment from the public sector unit in top-level selection, and sought intervention from the highest echelons of the government.
In a letter to the telecom secretary Anshu Prakash, dated November 5, seen by ETT, the Indian Telecommunication Services Association (ITSA) said that ITS officers were treated as outsiders for the vacancies at BSNL’s board-level even without providing equal opportunity to deployed officers.
