Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was down 155.05 points at 12,071.60, while the BSE Sensex was down 507.71 points at 40,956.90.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 5 were trading in the green, while 45 were in the red.
Shares of Vodafone Idea, Welspun Corp, YES Bank, Tata Motors, Sterling and Wilson Solar Ltd., Bank of Baroda, SAIL, Adani Green Energy and SBI were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
