SIA-India

"Shared
NEW DELHI: SIA-India, the Satcom industry body has urged the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to create a robust regulatory framework of the 28GHz bandwidth (27.5GHz-29.5GHz) since the shared use of bandwidth by the Satcom industry and 5G may impair investments into India from private satellite operators having constellations in various orbits, and will also render much of the available capacities as unusable.

SIA India has also urged the DoT to reserve the 28GHz exclusively for the satellite sector, in line with the International Telecommunications Union's stand on the issue, while allocating 24.25GHz-27.5GHz for 5G services.

Telcos, however, have been pushing the telecom department to update the national Frequency Allocation Plan (NFAP) to include the crucial millimeter waves (read: 26GHz, 28GHz) without which 5G deployment costs in India would jump several-fold and make the ultra-fast wireless broadband service unaffordable, ET previously reported.
