Had the launch proceeded as scheduled, Pixxel would have been the first private Indian company to have launched an earth observation satellite into lower earth orbit.
“Due to certain software issues that surfaced during the final satellite testing, we have decided not to proceed with our launch on the PSLV C51 mission scheduled for the 28th of this month,” the company said in a statement.
It has decided to postpone the launch by a few weeks, giving it enough time to reevaluate the satellite’s software and test it rigorously before it looks for the nearest launch window.
“Given the time and effort that has gone into making the satellite, it did not make sense to rush a satellite to launch in which we do not have complete confidence at this time,” Pixxel added.
The PSLV C51, India’s first space mission for the year, will continue as scheduled, with the primary payload being Brazilian earth observation satellite Amazonia. It will also carry 17 smaller satellites.
Pixxel had earlier planned to launch its first satellite atop a Russian Soyuz rocket in mid-2020, but the launch was first pushed to late 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic before being delayed further. In December the company signed a deal with ISRO to launch atop its PSLV workhorse.
The company’s partnership with ISRO came soon after the creation of IN-SPACe, an independent nodal agency under the DoS for allowing space activities and use of the department’s facilities.
Pixxel was one of the finalists of the Best on Campus category in the 2020 edition of The Economic Times Startup Awards. The startup was a close runner-up for the award, which was bagged by Bellatrix, another space technology startup, which builds electric propulsion engines for satellites.

The Bengaluru-based firm said that the decision to pull out of the launch five days before lift-off was due to software glitches detected during the final stages of the satellite’s testing.
["Pixxel","Anand","space technology startup pixxel","PSLV C51","Amazonia","satellite launch","Industry","Spacetech
telecomnews/space-startup-pixxels-satellite-launch-delayed-again"}}" data-authors="[" "]" data-category-name="" data-category_id="" data-date="2021-02-24" data-index="article_1">
