SpaceX<\/a> is set to apply to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) for a global mobile personal communications by satellite services (GMPCS) permit to launch broadband-from-space services in India under its Starlink<\/a> brand, said people with knowledge of the matter. The move will pit the Elon Musk-owned company against the likes of Bharti Group-backed OneWeb<\/a> and Reliance Jio<\/a> Infocomm's satellite arm for a slice of the nascent market, expected to be worth $13 billion by 2025.
SpaceX will be the third company after OneWeb and Reliance<\/a> Jio's satellite arm to apply for this key permit required to roll out high-speed space internet services in India using its global constellation of low earth orbit<\/a> (LEO) satellites.

Separately, the company will also be seeking statutory approvals from the government for landing rights and market access.
