Producers and songwriters, who play a key role in the creative processes of artists and bands, was first highlighted by Spotify in 2018, when it began showing credits based on record label metadata. In February this year, the company began beta testing songwriter pages. It says profiles of songwriters and producers, displayed in clickable song credits, “accumulated” over 127 billion song streams till date. This database is being expanded to include profiles for Irving Berlin, Sia, Ant Clemons, and other songwriters.
With the creation of the new hub as a standalone section in the Spotify app<\/a>, songwriters will now get the same exposure as artists, with the service creating a collection of “Written By” playlists of featured songwriters. Eight such playlists exist, but the streaming service says it is in the process of compiling new ones to populate the Songwriters Hub.
Unlike Apple, which has two separate apps – Music and Podcasts – for audio content, Spotify offers both formats in its apps, including a slew of recently-launched music-focussed podcasts. The Songwriters Hub went live during the weekend, and the section is ready for users who want to know more about the creative team behind their favourite music.
