""You fold your transparent mobile phone so that it fits into your wallet and charge it on the way to office using your helmet. While in a meeting with your boss, you switch on your washing machine with your phone. Your fancy jacket runs your laptop as you make an award-winning presentation. If this sounds like a sci-fi movie script, you may soon be a part of it.

Flexible, single-layer mobile phones, solar jackets and helmets for energy generation and storage on-the-go and smart power outlets that enable electric appliances to be controlled without physical contact are some new-age gadgets developed by Indian students and professionals as the country vows to reduce its carbon footprint and improve energy efficiency.

The transparent and foldable mobile phones are made of graphene, the new super material in the tech industry that’s extremely thin, strong and flexible.

The bulky solar panels of today could soon be replaced by aesthetic ‘
solar trees’ near your offices and homes with ‘leaves’ made of small panels to generate electricity.

Fluid and flexible solar panels that can be moulded into any shape can make current solar panels a thing of the past as India targets generation of 100 GW
solar power by 2022.

New-age gadgets for wireless transmission of electricity in the form of energy packets similar to Wi-Fi data packets were among the exhibits showcased at Elecrama-2016, an event organised by the Indian Electrical and Electronics Manufacturers Association in Bengaluru recently.

Other gadgets are bulbs that can automatically adjust to the natural and surrounding light thanks to a smart kit that ensures they provide only that fraction of intensity that isn’t provided by the ambient light.

Also, an electronic bracelet with a wireless connection to a smartphone to set off an alarm in an emergency has been invented for women’s security. A gadget that can detect electricity without any contact will be extremely useful for technicians working on power distribution lines who face a high risk of electrocution.

IEEMA president Babu Babel said India’s energy sector is in need of new ideas. “With growing demand and population, energy sector has to innovate to provide cheaper energy to all. We got to have newer ideas to make our equipment smarter. IEEMA supports innovations and works with various academic institutions,” he said.

The transparent and foldable mobile phones are made of graphene, the new super material in the tech industry that’s extremely thin, strong and flexible.
["students","Solar power","Carbon footprint","energy consumption","Devices","solar trees
telecomnews/students-invent-gadgets-to-make-life-simpler-reduce-energy-consumption"}}" data-authors="[" sarita singh"]" data-category-name="" data-category_id="" data-date="2016-03-05" data-index="article_1">
