Rating: ***1/2
Specifications: Octa core Helio P22 processor, 4GB RAM, 64GB storage (expandable, dedicated microSD slot), 6.2-inch IPS LCD 19:9 aspect ratio (1500 x 720 pixels), 13MP f1.8 + 5MP depth sensor, 24MP f2.0 AI front camera, fingerprint + face unlock, FM, WiFi n, BT5.0, 3,750mAh battery.
Pros: Great selfie camera, premium & lightweight design, notch can be hidden, offers gesture navigation.
Cons: Low screen resolution for the price, competitors at same price offer higher performance, video recording capped at 1080p, no manual mode in camera.
You may know Infinix and Tecno as the online and offline brands (respectively) of Transsion Holdings. In a recent development, some Tecno smartphones have also started selling online and that means they need to compete better with a whole new set of products. Part of that strategy is the Camon iClick2.
Camon is the name they give to their camera-centric range of phones and the iClick2 is the current flagship in the range. The phone is available in three colours: Aqua Blue, Hawaii Blue (gradient colour) and the more conventional Midnight black. Even though this is a mid-range phone, it tries to give you a premium feel and design.

It’s slim, lightweight, has slim bezels (for the price) and a glass-like glossy back panel. Up front the screen takes up most of the place (no branding and buttons are on screen). The notch on top houses the 24MP f2.0 AI camera, diffused LED flash and other sensors (proximity + ambient light). Around the back it has the fingerprint scanner and a raised camera module that houses the dual camera system (13MP f1.8 + 5MP depth) and quad LED flash.
The box includes the device, SIM tool, documentation, micro USB cable, 10W charger and a pair of basic 3.5mm earphones with in-line remote/mic. A screen guard is pre-applied but we were expecting a soft case too, especially since this is a Tecno flagship. It’s obvious that the selfie camera is a strong focus for this device. A 24MP f2.0 front camera with 1.8 micron pixels is unique at this price and beyond.
Apart from the AI assisted scene selection, you also get a Beauty mode and Bokeh mode. The edge detection in bokeh mode is not always great but if you stick to regular AI mode, it gives sharp results. There’s a front LED flash too. The dual rear camera offers good results in most scenarios and some extras like Super Pixel (an extra large photo). That being said, not having manual mode in a camera centric phone is a misstep.

But we didn’t like that the screen is 1500 x 720 pixels — almost all top phones at this price have FHD+ resolution now. And the P22 processor, while capable for most basic tasks, is found on much cheaper phones like Redmi 6 (Rs 8,499).
In usual Tecno fashion, the phone comes with the ‘111’ promise: this includes 1-time free screen replacement in case of breakage, 100-day replacement in case of failure/fault and 1 month extended warranty (13 month warranty). At the asking price, Tecno can count many stalwarts among its competitors. Xiaomi (Redmi range), Nokia, Asus, Honor, Oppo, Vivo, Honor and Realme all offer competing devices. We really like the Realme 2 Pro (Rs 13,999) in this segment, primarily because of the way better performance and smaller, teardrop style notch.
