GREATER NOIDA<\/a>: Taiwan Electrical<\/a> and Electronic Manufacturers' Association (TEEMA) and leading manufacturer of mobile electronic devices<\/a>—OPPO<\/a>—on Tuesday have reached an agreement to work jointly in Greater Noida. The two entities have agreed in the presence of Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary, Rahul Bhatnagar to set up an Electronic Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) in the city. The meeting took place in Lucknow. The proposal will now be put before the next state cabinet, Deepak Agarwal, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) told TOI from Lucknow.

According to Agarwal, while
OPPO<\/a> will establish its unit across 110 acres of land, a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) will be put into place for a joint venture between OPPO and TEEMA across 100 acres. “We have already earmarked two parcels of land for the purpose of setting up an EMC in Greater Noida,” he said. “In November this year, OPPO has already inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Uttar Pradesh Development Systems Corporation, a subsidiary of Uttar Pradesh Electronics Corporation Limited in the presence of the UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav<\/a>,” he said. “They will be putting up their unit across 110 acres in the Ecotech 6 and 7 zone of the city and are likely to start producing mobile handsets and other devices<\/a> in Greater Noida within a year and half,” he said.

\nAgarwal further explained that OPPO mobile telecommunications Corporation Limited is the anchor company for this EMC, which will also have TEEMA as its part. “OPPO is likely to invest Rs 1000 crore in the next 5 years and another Rs 1000 crores for setting up their ancillary units. The company plans to generate employment for about 30,000 people,” he added.

\nAs per officials, a meeting first convened with the Principal Secretary, Industries, Rama Raman before the proposal was put before the Chief Secretary on Tuesday. “The final nod is awaited from the state cabinet before the project can take off,” said Agarwal.
