\"\"HYDERABAD<\/a>: The Telangana government on Tuesday touched the 1,000 public wi-fi<\/a> hot spots mark in Hyderabad and will launch another 2,000 in the next two months in collaboration with Airtel<\/a>, Act Fibrenet<\/a>, BSNL<\/a> and other partners, announced a senior bureaucrat.

\nThe project, known as ‘Hyderabad City Wi-Fi Project’ or Hy-Fi, would entail an investment of Rs 300 crore and would be made by the service operators and infrastructure providers.
\n
According to
Jayesh Ranjan<\/a>, principal secretary, IT department, Telangana, “We will be adding another 2,000 wi-fi hot spots across the city in the next two months with investments from the private players. The government is also allowing use of its own properties wherever required apart from developing a conducive policy.”
\n
\nA separate Government Order (GO) has been brought out to enable smooth execution of the program for internet service providers (ISPs).
\n
\nHe added that of the Rs 300 crore investment planned by the players, part of it has already been invested while the rest will be done in the next two months.
\n
Rajan S. Mathews, director general, Cellular Operators Association of India (
COAI<\/a>), said “The state government’s conducive policy helped us a lot in taking off such projects as we have not been successful in other states due to lack of support from the governments.”
\n
\nCOAI is the apex industry body of telecom services providers, mobile and internet companies.
\n
\nAmong the partners in this project, Indus Towers will create the infrastructure while service providers like Act Fibrenet, Airtel, BSNL will offer connectivity. COAI will look after the coordination among the telcos.
