AGR for the January-March quarter was Rs 58,886 crore as compared to Rs 55,151 crore in Q3FY22, according to the latest data put out by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India<\/a> (Trai<\/a>) on Tuesday.
The data showed that all private three telcos – Reliance Jio<\/a>, Bharti Airtel<\/a>, and Vodafone Idea<\/a> - saw sequential AGR gains in the March quarter, with the latter two showing double digit on quarter growth.
Jio’s AGR for the quarter grew 8.37% to Rs 20, 659.9 crore, while Airtel’s was at Rs 16, 005.16 crore, up 10.5% and Vodafone Idea’s grew to Rs 7209.57 crore, up 10.21%. Access services contributed 78.83% of total telecom services AGR in the fiscal fourth quarter, FY22.
The increase in the telcos’ AGR resulted in higher licence fee and spectrum usage charge (SUC<\/a>) collections for the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). The licence fee collection climbed 3.76% sequentially to Rs 4, 712 crore, while SUC collections rose 9.44% on-quarter to Rs 1, 926 crore, data collated by the regulator showed.
Telcos annually pay 8% of their AGR as licence fees and 3-5% towards SUC to the government.
Overall sectoral minutes of consumption rose, with the all-India average minutes of usage (MoU) per subscriber per month from wireless services gaining 11.81% sequentially to 955 minutes in the quarter ended March, 2022. The MoU for the December quarter was 854 minutes.
Trai’s report on the telecom industry<\/a>’s fiscal fourth quarter performance also indicated that monthly average revenue per user (ARPU) from wireless services rose 11.4% on-quarter to Rs 127.17, and 22.77% on-year.
Prepaid ARPU per month increased to Rs 121.91 in the March quarter from Rs 107.98 in the previous quarter. However, postpaid ARPU per month decreased to Rs 200.56 in the fourth quarter of FY22 from Rs 210.33 in December quarter.
