NEW DELHI: The recently-unveiled Production-Linked Incentive (PLI<\/a>) scheme for the telecom sector<\/a> would enable it to become a part of a supply chain worldwide, and Indian manufacturers have already making significant inroads in multiple countries, Sanjay Dhotre<\/a>, Minister of State for IT, Telecom<\/a> and HRD said.
\"The government has announced the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for sectors including telecom to become a part of the global supply chain,\" Dhotre said, adding that the Indian manufacturers have made significant strides in several countries.
Speaking at the India Telecom - 2021, organised by the Telecom Equipment and Services Export Promotion Council (TEPC), he further said that the industry should work together to take it to new heights.
\"We have seen the power of connectivity during the pandemic. India holds a distinction of being the fastest growing sector in the world,\" Dhotre said, adding that the Information Communication Technology (ICT) sector is a major growth driver for India.
Dhotre said that the guidelines for other service providers (OSP) and doing away with compliances facilitate work from home or work from anywhere.
\"Telecom industry has witnessed a massive growth and has become an interface of various sectors today,\" Anita Praveen, additional secretary, Department of Telecommunications<\/a> (DoT<\/a>) said.
Parveen said that 95% of the population is connected today with affordable pricing, and India offers a hope for many countries.
\"The pandemic has accelerated the digitisation of telecom networks. Indian ICT exporters have a lot to offer with cutting-edge technologies and Intellectual Property Rights (IPR),\" Rahul Chabbra, Secretary (ER), Ministry of External Affairs said.
Telecom goods and services, according to him, is an important pillar of Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) strategy.
