Tower and Infrastructure Providers Association (
TAIPA<\/a>), which is an apex representative body of Telecom Infrastructure<\/a> Providers Category – I (IP-1), has written to the Chief Secretary of Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan urging for the reduction in electricity tariff.

“Seamless operations of the telecom infrastructure comprising of telecom towers is necessary to ensure uninterrupted connectivity round the clock to support the work from home, delivery of various critical services and maintain communication across the State including for those involved in the rescue and preventive operations against
Coronavirus<\/a> at various levels,” Taipa said in its letter to five states.

The association said that Maharashtra State
Electricity Regulatory<\/a> Commission: has already reduced their tariff by 10 to 15 % to boost Industrial and Commercial sector in the state.

“At this critical juncture, the requirement of having such kind of support is need of the hour when the country is passing through one of the most debilitating epidemics in the form of Covid19,” it said.

Due to the present situation, usage of telecom services and telecom infrastructure or telecom towers has increased manifold, which requires uninterrupted and a lot more supply of electricity to ensure 24\/7 continuity of critical telecom infrastructure services in order to cater to the telecom network demand, Taipa said.

Taipa said that its member companies have so far installed more than 5 lakh towers supporting around 1.2 billion subscribers ensuring smooth telecommunications connectivity in the country.

“We believe that our submission would merit the kind consideration and look forward for the support in making a progressive step for the benefit of the consumers like Telecom Infrastructure Providers(IP-1) by supplying electricity at the lower rates for telecom tower operations in all five states in view of the present situation due to COVID-19 outbreak,” T.R.Dua, Director-General, Tower & infrastructure Providers Association(TAIPA), said in a statement.
