But with the shift to new segments, the market size has at least doubled to Rs 75,000-Rs 90,000 crore, from earlier Rs 35,000- Rs40,000 crore,” Ajay Chitkara, CEO, Airtel Business<\/a> told ETTelecom.
Enterprise business contributes around 19-20% to the overall business and is growing very fast.“With 5G coming in, there are a lot of use cases which are enterprise driven. We have built the right capabilities based on the infrastructure side, based on digital platforms. The unique part is customer insights…our business is based on their feedback. We have focused on a few segments and expanded the business beyond connectivity basis the customer insight”, he said.
Airtel<\/a> Business, the B2B<\/a> arm of Bharti Airtel, serves 1200 customers globally, which are large enterprises coming to India, mainly the internet companies.
“We are just getting started”, he said adding there is a massive opportunity to enable businesses across industries to transform how they deliver goods and services and we have the largest network of edge data centers available in India under the Nxtra<\/a> brand, he said.
Overall cloud adoption is increasing and also public cloud where use capacities in India. And that's where wholesale data centers of large hyperscale campuses are getting built in India, Rajesh Tapadia, CEO, Nxtra by Airtel said.
We are currently running about 12 large data centers and 120 edge data centers across 65 cities which are mainly Tier 2 and 3 starting from Jammu to Guwahati to Rajkot etc. Also, we have already announced an investment of Rs 5000 crore in the next three years where we are building large hyperscale campuses. About six large campuses are under construction and most of the work has already started, he said.
Airtel and IBM<\/a> recently announced a partnership to deploy telco’s edge computing platform which will enable large enterprises across multiple industries, including manufacturing and automotive to accelerate solutions securely at the edge. Edge computing can be significantly enhanced with 5G. In India, it has the potential to cross $1 trillion in value by 2035, estimates the company. Maruti Suzuki<\/a> has also signed up for the edge computing service and intends to use the edge platform to increase accuracy and efficiency for quality inspections on the factory floor.
With the launch of 5G, enterprise business is expected to become a huge revenue generator for the telecom industry<\/a>, especially private networks. Telecom operators are banking heavily on this segment which is looking to transform business operations digitally across various segments and industries.
