""NOIDA: City residents, worried about the presence of mobile towers in their locality, can now heave a sigh of relief as the towers would finally be removed. The Noida Authority has asked cellphone operators to relocate all towers from the residential areas within a month.

In a public notice, issued on Saturday, the Noida Authority has warned that if not removed within the stipulated period, then the mobile phone towers would be forcefully knocked down, and the properties on which they are installed would also face cancellation of allotment.

According to officials, all mobile towers in the city are to be installed as per a Noida Authority's policy framed in November 2013.

The policy states that cell phone towers can be installed in community centres, green belts and shopping centres, but not allowed on the roofs of hospitals, schools and nursing homes. They can, however, be constructed on the roofs of institutional, industrial and commercial buildings, the officials said.

As per the policy, the Authority has set Rs 1 lakh as application fee to erect new
towers, while re-location would cost Rs 1.5 lakh to service providers. A sum of Rs 50,000 has to be paid for each additional operator on a single tower, over and above the application fee. The officials said that if any towers are found to be located in residential areas, they will be sealed. Anyone not following the necessary procedure before setting up the towers will be dealt with strictly, they added.

In January 2012, the
Allahabad High Court had banned the installation of new towers in residential areas. Following the order, the Noida Authority had in November 2013 formulated a policy and thereafter undertaken to relocate all existing towers from residential areas of the city.

"We need to make sure that mobile phone towers in Noida don't flout norms," said an official, adding that if the telecom operators do not respond to the notice, then the authority will take strict action against them.
