""KOLKATA: Telecom tower operator Viom Networks has decided to push back its initial public offering, or IPO, to March-April next year instead of December because market conditions are not as buoyant as they were two months ago, a company director said. Viom’s board will meet in late August to take a final call on the IPO depending on prevailing market conditions, Sunil Kanoria, director at Viom, told ET. “Even if the board decides on an IPO, it is unlikely before March 2016 as market conditions are not favourable now,” said Kanoria, who is also a joint owner of the company through his Srei Infrastructure.

According to industry officials, Viom was earlier mulling an IPO by December 2015 to fund growth plans, particularly after its talks to sell controlling stake to American Tower Corp (ATC) have failed over valuations. The company was looking to raise a shade over Rs 1,000 crore to fund tower site expansion amid surging carrier demand for data sites and open an exit route for stakeholders keen to cash out. The company did not reply to ET’s queries on status of deal talks with ATC or on capital raising plans as of press time on Wednesday.

Tata Teleservices holds 54% in Viom while Kolkata-based Srei own 18.5%. The balance shares are held by a clutch of private equity firms such as Macquarie SBI Infrastructure, GIC Investments, IDFC Private Equity and Funderburk Mauritius (Oman Investment Fund).

The possibility of Viom exploring alternate capital raising avenues comes after its talks with ATC failed over valuations. Viom, according to sources, was pushing for an enterprise value of nearly 12 times its EBITDA, or earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation & amortisation, a key profitability indicator. This would mean an enterprise value of Rs 24,000 crore, well above what ATC offered.

A company executive said Viom “is in no tearing hurry to do the IPO” because its internal accruals are strong and its EBITDA is atRs 2,000 crore annually.

But the company needs to expand its tower capacity to meet expected boom in demand, the person said. With incumbent mobile carriers splurging on 3G networks and Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Jio Infocomm due to launch 4G services by December, Viom expects an additional demand of nearly 2 lakh data sites over the next 18 months.

“Accordingly, Viom needs fresh capital to expand its tower infrastructure to be in a position to respond to the anticipated industry demand for sites in coming months,” the company executive said on condition of anonymity.

Viom also proposes to raise fresh resources to invest in building infrastructure solutions for boosting mobile coverage at airports, malls and large residential and commercial complexes. Stock market sentiment has lately been weak with brokerages keeping a close vigil on developments in Greece, which is on the verge of bankruptcy and possibly exiting European Union, and the progress of monsoon, with the weather office predicting lower than normal rainfall this year. On Wednesday, the key Bombay Stock Exchange Sensex closed 484 points, or 1.72%, down from its previous close in response to massive plunge in Chinese stock markets.

With more than 42,000
towers, Viom posted profit before tax of about Rs 250 crore on revenues of more than Rs 5,000 crore for the year ended March. It plans to add more than 2,000 towers this fiscal year.

The possibility of Viom exploring alternate capital raising avenues comes after its talks with ATC failed over valuations.
["Towers","IPO","Sunil Kanoria","Viom Networks","Viom
viom-networks-pushes-back-ipo-plans-to-april-2016-as-market-turn-sluggish"}}" data-authors="[" kalyan parbat"]" data-category-name="" data-category_id="" data-date="2015-07-09" data-index="article_1">
