“Authority has directed
TSPs<\/a> (telecom service providers) to take urgent steps to demonstrate visible improvement in quality of service and quality of experience by consumers. TSPs<\/a> were asked to analyse the issue of call muting and one way speech and take corrective action on priority,” Trai<\/a> said in a statement released late Friday.

Call muting is a phenomenon that occurs during a call where in case of poor network, attempts to keep a call connected are made, during which voice is not heard by one or either parties for a few seconds. This is most prevalent over
VoLTE services<\/a>.

The telecom regulator reiterated that telcos need to implement the two directives it issued to curb the misuse of Headers and Message Templates of Principal Entities (PEs) by telemarketers and messages from unauthorized or unregistered telemarketers, including telemarketers using telephone numbers.

On February 16, the telecom regulator has directed telcos to block all unverified headers and message templates within 30 and 60 days, respectively. Trai has asked operators to bar all telemarketers not registered on DLT platform from scrubbing or updating message templates to deliver messages through their network.
