According to media reports, the regulator has granted 10 days time for the compliance report from broadcasters.
The TRAI will decide its next move once the broadcasters send their responses. The regulator is most likely to issue Show Cause Notices (SCN) to broadcasters, since most of them are non-compliant with NTO 2.0.
Recently, the Supreme Court rejected pleas by a bunch of TV channels seeking stay of a Bombay HC judgment questioning the validity of TRAI's New Tariff Order NTO 2.0, notified on January 1 last year, which capped pay channel price at Rs 12 from the existing Rs 19.
Indian Broadcasting and Digital Foundation, an umbrella organisation of private TV broadcasters, and many other private channels had moved the SC challenging the Bombay HC decision alleging that NTO 2.0 seriously interfered with their fundamental right to carry on a particular trade or profession guaranteed under Article 19(1)(g) of the Constitution.
