\"\"NEW DELHI: The Broadband India Forum (BIF<\/a>) Wednesday supported the recommendations released by sector regulator Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai<\/a>) on net neutrality, and said that they back consumers.

“BIF supports an open
Internet<\/a> and believes that consumers should decide what to do online, the Delhi-based group in a statement said.
\n
\nTuesday, Trai suggested prohibition of Internet service providers from making any discrimination in Web traffic by either blocking or throttling some apps and websites.
\n
“BIF warmly welcomes these recommendations by Trai on net neutrality. We laud the authority for upholding the freedom of the Internet and clearly enunciating all the concerned principles of net neutrality,”
TV Ramachandran<\/a>, President Broadband India Forum said.
\n
\nThe suggestions, according to Ramachandran were strongly in favour of consumers and in the overall interest of the general public, and constitute a very good foundation for Digital India.
\n
The forum, headed by former telecom secretary
MF Farooqui<\/a>, supports the recommendation that there should be no blocking, throttling and discrimination of any content available on the public Internet domain.
\n
\nBIF completely agrees to the Trai recommendation of formation of industry led multi-stakeholder body for enforcement and monitoring work in a collaborative framework, it further added.
\n
Meanwhile, telecom players represented by the Cellular Operators Association of India (
COAI<\/a>) said that the regulator should have adopted a light touch approach to net neutrality.

The group that represents interests of incumbent telcos such as

印度新德里:宽带论坛(BIF)周三发布的支持建议部门监管机构印度电信管理局(火车)网络中立,说他们的消费者。
