We are designing a concrete strategy for the segment,” said Sehgal here on the sidelines of a programme unveiling three small and medium enterprises (SME)-focused initiatives of VBS.

\nOn the targeted business from startups, the cellular services major is on wait-and-watch mode. Sehgal said: “We don’t know how many of these disruptive ideas will click. So, we are yet to zero in on the prospective size of the startup pie.” The company has reportedly contacted eight-nine startup incubators, including Nasscom, so far.

\nThe VBS business — which earns 15% of the Rs 42,000 crores Vodafone India revenue and grows at a 20% YoY rate — is taking an aggressive stance to lure SMEs. The segment forms around 30% of the entire VBS business. According to Sehgal, the opportunity lies in SME and MSME segments as one in five smaller enterprises is on expansion mode. “The SME vertical is the fastest-growing segment for VBS,” he added.
\nOn the variety of services startups would need, the VBS chief said mostly they are aggregators operating in e-commerce and m-commerce space. “So, their requirements would be the same,” he said.

\nVBS on Thursday unveiled its growth strategy to increase its target of the SME business in India. Reiterating its commitment to Digital India and Make in India, VBS aims to adopt a three-pronged approach focusing on coverage, intelligence and automation to increase its distribution network by 2016-17. Accordingly, it will increase and strengthen the channel partners to cover the increased SME customer base across the country.
“We are going beyond catering to
the voice<\/a> and data need and want to become a complete ICT (information, communications and technology) player. We will double our coverage with channel partners. We plan to reach out to around four million SMEs,” said Sehgal. The new VBS cloud platform acts as the one-stop shop for SMEs. It offers IT-related business solutions through a pay-per-use software as a service (SaaS) model.
