Chandigarh: The Chandigarh district consumer redressal forum<\/a> has directed Vodafone<\/a> to refund the amount of Rs 250 to a Chandigarh resident that was paid by him towards refundable security deposit for his mobile number.

\nAman Singla of Sector 20 had filed a complainant against Vodafone alleging that he had been a Vodafone customer since April 2012 and was having two mobile numbers. According to the complainant, in April 2014 he opted for mobile number portability and shifted to Airtel.

\nSingla deposited refundable security of Rs 250 each with Vodafone for both his mobile numbers and requested the mobile company for refund of the security deposit amount. They, however, refunded the security deposit of only one mobile Though the complainant wrote several emails and even visited to the office of Vodafone, but nothing was done in this regard.
\n
\nIn its reply, the company stated that due to inadvertent error, it could not refund the security against the mobile connection and during conciliation proceedings, which took place before the lok adalat of the forum, it had agreed to pay an additional compensation of 1,500 to the complainant for the inconvenience caused to him. He, however, started demanding exorbitant amount, the company alleged.

\nThe forum stated said though the issue as stated by the Vodafone is very small i.e. of refund of a meagre amount of 250, they did not pay any heed to the repeated requests of the complainant before filing of the present complaint and despite several efforts on part of the complainant, the company could not resolve the petty matter of refunding 250 till date.

\nThe forum also observed that the complaint was filed on July 14, 2015, and the amount to be refunded by Vodafone was pending since April 2014. It showed negligence on part of Vodafone and delaying the request of the complainant for refund despite repeated emails and legal notice caused him physical and mental harassment that forced the complainant to get indulged into the present unnecessary litigation.

\nAfter hearing the arguments, the forum directed Vodafone pay refund amount of Rs 250 and Rs 3,000 as compensation for harassment and Rs 4,000 to the complainant as litigation expenses.
