Kohli was elevated to a bigger role in a reshuffle under Wipro CEO Thierry Delaporte, with all the services lines rolling up to him. Prior to that, he was president of Wipro Digital, the digital transformation business which he incubated and scaled to become one of the largest and most recognised businesses of the company. Kohli has also led the banking and financial services vertical. He was also a member of Wipro's executive board and executive council. An email sent to Wipro on the matter did not elicit a response till the time of going to the press.

Wipro has seen several top-level exits in the recent past. Kohli's departure comes close on the heels of that of Angan Guha, who also had spent nearly three decades in Wipro, and oversaw a portfolio spanning financial services, manufacturing, energy & utilities, hi-tech and Canada operations. He headed what Wipro calls Americas 2 strategic business unit, which contributes over 31% of Wipro’s global revenue. Guha is now CEO & MD of Pune-headquartered Birlasoft. Sanjeev Singh, who was COO at Wipro, quit recently to join CMS IT Services as CEO & MD.
A number of exits at the VP and SVP levels had led to accelerated promotions of others to these positions. In January, Wipro announced a record promotion of 70 senior executives to these ranks. When TOI asked Delaporte about it post the earnings announcement in January, he said, \"It’s been a part of the strategy to upgrade our leadership talent...We are investing in top talent, bringing talent from outside and bringing new expertise to enrich our talent pool. I’m keeping a healthy balance of talent coming from outside and talent that we are growing. We are obsessively focused on performance. It’s meritocracy and a performance-driven organisation and we will continue to do that. The reason why we have been accelerating promotions is not to fill gaps, it’s because you must provide growth opportunities to top talent.\"
