Kolkata: Xiaomi India clocked its lowest sales growth but swung into profit in 2019-20.

Sales of the Chinese smartphone maker in India grew 7% over the year ago to Rs 38,196 crore in 2019-20, regulatory filings accessed by AltInfo showed. Still, the company posted a profit of Rs 401 crore in FY20 after sustaining Rs 148 crore loss a year earlier.

While Xiaomi did not state why sales growth had slowed, industry executives said the company has been trying to strengthen its presence in the mid-to-premium smartphones and Smart TVs, segments which have higher margins.

To be sure, Xiaomi is still India's largest smartphone company in terms of units sold. At 26%, it lost one percentage-point market share in 2020 from the year earlier, according to Counterpoint Research. Samsung and Vivo remained at the second and third spots, with no change in market share—21% and 16%, respectively, but Realme and Oppo did grow in the year gone by.

In terms of revenue, though, Xiaomi now ranks third behind Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. and BBK Group, which sells smartphones under the Oppo, OnePlus and Realme brands.

“All efforts shall continue to be made to increase the revenue and retained earnings in the upcoming years,” Xiaomi India said in the filing. Queries separately sent to Xiaomi India remained unanswered till Sunday press time.

/news/farmers-protest-government-ordered-4g-mobile-internet-curbs-on-feb-6-in-delhi-border-areas/80736661
/image/tech/tech-bytes/xiaomi-india-clocks-lowest-sales-growth-but-swings-to-profit/xiaomi-india/80736686
Xiaomi India sales grew 7% over the year ago to Rs 38,196 crore in 2019-20 even as it clocked a profit of Rs 401 crore after sustaining Rs 148 crore loss a year ago.
["Xiaomi smartphones","xiaomi sales in india","Xiaomi India","chinese smartphones in India","Devices","xiaomi india profit","xiaomi India sales","India smartphone sales
telecomnews/xiaomi-india-clocks-lowest-sales-growth-but-swings-to-profit"}}" data-authors="[" writankar mukherjee"]" data-category-name="" data-category_id="" data-date="2021-02-07" data-index="article_1">
